The material I am requesting are yoga mats for students with special needs who are attending high school to allow them to participate in gross motor time. These students present with varying diagnoses that impact mobility, behavior, cognition, and participation in the classroom. Yoga has been implemented into their day as a way to destress, relax, to move, and come together as a group to focus on better health and wellness. They complete their gross motor time after lunch as a class led by the special education teacher with the assistance of 3 other special education assistants. At the moment, they are currently using towels to place on the floor and complete gross motor activities as a class. These yoga mats would allow them to incorporate physical activity in their day and for all future classes with the special education teacher. Please consider donating to this classroom. Movement is essential to all beings!!
