My more seasoned high school outdoor club members want to have a wilderness backpacking experience. Students will plan and carry out all elements of the multi-day backpacking trip including but not limited to: select dates and destination, create an itinerary, secure necessary permits, acquire necessary skills and equipment, plan, package and prepare meals, work within a budget, and conduct shakedown hikes and other fitness and preparation activities. In addition to these being great skills for outdoor activities, they are fantastic skills for life and will transfer to most anything these young men and women take on in the future. Necessary for the safety of backpackers as well as bears, these bear-resistant containers will meet regulations and enable us to safely store food and personal care items on this overnight wilderness trip. They are for obvious reasons, very durable and will be used by hundreds of students for years to come.
