As you can see my students love to read and are very enthusiastic about their reading center time. In this picture, we are in the middle of Daily 5. This block of our day includes reading, writing and small group instruction with the teacher. Over half the class came to me this year reading below grade level expectations. It is so vital that the reading gap be eliminated because my students have exceptional goals for the future. They want to be doctors, dentists, teachers, etc. No matter what their goal may be reading will always be an important part of their lives. I would like to help them get one step closer to those goals. I am a 2nd grade teacher from Texas and this is my 21th year at this school. I can not imagine working anywhere else. Each year my student's teach me more about what it means to be a teacher. So I want to do something for them to show that their hard work is important.
