My students who do not speak English well, or are struggling readers need an iPad to help build their English language. They can use programs on the iPad to help build fluency and recognition of letters/sounds. I have noticed that students want to participate more and are more engaged when they have the ability to correctly communicate with their peers. When I have students who do not speak English they often feel intimidated and left out of valuable conversations. The wonderful thing about the iPad is students will be able to participate in all courses by being able to use translation apps to communicate with the teacher and their peers. There are also apps on the iPad that will help them learn words and letter sounds to build a larger vocabulary to become fluent in English. Students look at iPads as a source for games, yet they do not realize they are also learning.
