You may have noticed the newest toy sensation, the amazing fidget spinner! You may remember having a teacher that would constantly ask students to stop tapping pencils or learning in their chairs. The bottom line is that kids like and need to move. This project is centered around making our learning environment meet the needs of individual students. Last school year I implemented flexible seating in our classroom and noticed a big difference in behavior and students ability to focus. Students were able to choose where they sat based on how their body was feeling that day. Seating options included crate seats, stools, pillows, bean bags and chairs. However, there was two seating options that stood out! The one balance ball and the one wobble chair we had in the classroom. Students enjoyed being able to move their bodies safely and were able to stay focused for longer periods of time when they had a seating option that met their needs. By adding more of these tools to our classroom, more students will be able to choose seating options that will help them stay focused and complete their work in a comfortable learning environment.
