The awesome students at my school have a wide range of reading abilities. Next year in English class I am hoping we can use Chains, a novel by Laurie Halse Anderson, to parallel what our students will be learning simultaneously in their history classes. By taking a deep exploration into the novel that delves deeper into the time period being studied in history class, it will help students of all skill levels discuss their novels. It helps strong readers step out of their typical reading genres, and struggling readers find deeper meaning to historically relevant events. Our young people need opportunities to find connections to other times, other people, and other places through books that are culturally relevant. Each of copy of this novel donated to my students affords them with a unique opportunity to interact with literature that can impact the rest of their lives. The purchase of the copy of this novel will provide a complete class set for students to use. Thank you!
