We have been given the opportunity to transform an empty classroom in to a sensory room for the special needs students of our district. We have scoured garage sales, thrift stores, attics, basements - any place that might have something that we can use to improve or add to our sensory room. We are a small school in a rural district with a population of about 50 special needs students from grades PreK-12th grade. This room is utilized by all the children in our Special Education program. Some of the items in our cart will be used to help to stimulate different senses or mute lights and sounds to allow our students to find a safe space. We are lucky enough to work in a district that might have few funds but we have big hearts and amazing students. It is a privilege to watch them learn and grow and experience the world. This sensory room will be used and utilized every day.
