I have many goals for my students this year in order to develop their scientific thinking skills. In order to develop those skills, I want my students to have the opportunity to manipulate materials, and discover the outcome. Science is a verb in my classroom; conducting experiments is what will keep my students engaged and want to know more about the world around them. By making my laboratory supply list more robust, I can provide daily hands on activities for my students. In both my 8th grade science and Food Science and Nutrition classes, it's inspiring to watch students discover through their experiences. They learn by doing! Those light bulb moments are the reason why I became a science teacher in the first place!
