My students are in 7th and 8th grade in a small city in Illinois. I see approximately 385 students over the course of the school year. 83% of the student body is classified as low-income. Furthermore, 52% of the student body is black, 33% is white, and a small percentage is multi-race. Many of my students face certain hardships at home but you can't always see that in the classroom. They come to art class ready to learn and create phenomenal work. They do so much with what little they have access to - its inspiring. I love coming to work and seeing my students- it feels great to share my passion for art with them.
