Students are intrigued with crime shows and how crimes are solved. My students enjoy to engage themselves in hand-on activities. I believe students gain a better understanding of the concept (Entomology, DNA and Genetics in criminal investigations) if they are able to actually immerse themselves in the lesson. Students will use the Drosophila melanogaster kits to study life cycles of insects as well as traits that can be found in DNA that will be passed on to offspring. Having these kits for my students will strongly reinforce organism life cycles and genetics. Forensic entomology is the study of insects in criminal investigation These kits will address both entomology, DNA and genetics to help students understand how these tools are used in determine manner and cause of death at the scene of the crime.
