As a first year teacher during the 2020-2021 school year, it shifted the priorities in where I could and needed to spend money on my classroom. Due to the pandemic, everyone had to be separated. After dreaming about my first classroom for years, flexible seating was another thing that I had to scratch off of my list due to the procedures surrounding the pandemic. Next year, while still implementing COVID-19 guidelines, I am hoping to make my classroom more of a home for my students as we work towards getting back to our "new normal." The flexible seating options in my project will be used throughout my classroom. Like I stated earlier, my student population is very diverse. It creates unique circumstances that require creative ideas to keep the students moving and fidgeting without distracting the others. Seating like the balance balls will help these students focus and feel more comfortable. It will create flexible options to have the students be able to collaborate with one another more. As a first year teacher, I learned things that worked and didn't work for me and my kiddos. The organization of my classroom library was one of them. I am hoping that putting my classroom library into bins will help the students pick books that they are truly interested in. It will allow them to quickly flip through the bins and see if something is a good fit book for them. The organization of the library will make things much easier for the students as they fall in love with reading.
