The materials that I am requesting will make a huge difference in my students' learning. I am working to obtain 4 items through this project: 4 Osmo genius kits. With these materials, we will be able to have two permanent Osmo stations in our classroom.
The Osmo is an extremely interactive technology tool to help engage students in learning through play.
The Osmo connects to the iPad and allows the iPad to monitor the students' use of manipulatives such as letter, number, and shape tiles (all of which come in the Osmo genius kit). Students use the tiles to answer questions on games in the Osmo program. The Osmo provides immediate feedback of the student's response in an adaptive environment.
Furthermore, this program will benefit all of my students, despite their various academic abilities. Many of my students struggle with math fluency, a problem easily remedied by playing the "numbers" game on the Osmo. Students who struggle with number sense are able to use the dot tiles instead of the number tiles. Students who have mastered number identification are able to practice addition facts using number tiles. Once students master addition, they are able to use the number tiles to move on to subtraction.
In reading, students who need more practice with spelling can use the letter game. Once students place the letter tiles in front of the Osmo on the iPad, the program provides immediate feedback. This is a wonderful game to quickly enhance spelling ability.
