Social Studies lessons can be unfamiliar to students when they are learning about historical or geographical content that is unfamiliar to them. Students are more engaged when they are participating in hands-on learning activities. Using games and resource kits to learn about early explorers or puzzles to visually remember the location of the fifty states will help students make connections that they may not get from simply reading a textbook. My class is set up with large tables that would be ideal for implementation of small group rotations. I am confident that allowing students to learn through play will make their education more meaningful.
