I teach 7th and 8th grade Special Education, and many of my students are both SPED and English Learners (EL) from Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and immigrant families. Our small resource classroom is a safe haven where kids who often feel behind finally hear, “You belong here.” We read stories from Oceania, write about our families, and connect learning to the land around us. Many students share one room with siblings, care for younger cousins, or work after school, so they come to class tired but still trying. My goal is to build a classroom where they can take risks, create, and see themselves as smart and capable. With your help, I can give them hands on materials and experiences that make reading, writing, and math come alive through books, ʻukulele, and creative projects. Your donation tells my students that their voices, cultures, and dreams matter.
