I teach a second grade classroom in a rural community on the island of Oahu. I currently teach 18 enthusiastic students who enjoy many outdoor sports such as surfing, skateboarding and soccer. Teaching in a rural community is quite rewarding as the students are very "down to earth" and the parents work together to enrich the school. Some students are well traveled, while others rarely travel beyond the community. The class is culturally diversified from "local" Hawaii students to students form Asia, South America and the U.S. mainland.
