After spending time with my current group of students, as well as with students in the past, I have noticed that children enjoy opportunities where they don't need to sit in a hard chair to learn. I allow students to stand during lessons and independent work time, and they are very well behaved and respectful when doing so. I have found that when given the opportunity to sit, but on something more comfortable, students are more apt to focus and behave because they feel freedom to wiggle, without being a distraction. With ground rules and enforcing them, students also behave because they do not want to lose the opportunity to use the flexible seating options in the classroom.
