Our school serves K-5 low income students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in The Bronx, NY. They face challenges in school, at home and in the community due to their language delays and the different way they perceive and process the world through their senses. Many of them are being raised in single parent households, and all receive free breakfast and lunch at school due to their socioeconomic status. Despite the many challenges they face, our students can reach their full potential given the proper opportunities and supplies. This project will impact 40 students in our program, most of which are non-verbal or minimally verbal. The goal of our program is to support our students in ways that will one day lead them to be independent and functioning adults. This project will provide voice output devices to four 6:1:1 classrooms and two 8:1:1 classrooms.
