I teach Kindergarten through 6th grade students in general music classes, as well as an extra-curricular choir for 3rd-6th grade students. I see each class in the school twice a week for 30 minutes and rehearse with my choir twice a week for 45 minutes. My students LOVE coming to music class! My classroom is a Kodaly classroom; we sing traditional folk songs along with singing games and dances. We sing, read, write, hear, and think using solfege syllables, and we excel at singing in-tune. My students love to play the singing games and they think it is really cool to sing together in harmonies. This is our school's 10 year anniversary. An investment was made 9 years ago to purchase musical instruments to start our music program, and we have been using those same materials ever since. My students get really excited when they get to play on instruments since much of what we do is vocal. They love the supplies we have and would love to have more.
