Greenhouses allow students to investigate plant science all year. At our school, having a Palram Greenhouse with economical shelving would enable our seventh grade students to investigate photosynthesis in the Fall. Eighth grade students would use the greenhouse to investigate genetics in the Winter. Sixth grade students to investigate plant reproduction in the Spring. Kids love growing plants, and urban students benefit especially from the experience. We'll use vegetables and herbs with with sixth and seventh graders for simple investigations into photosynthesis, growth and reproduction. Students will then use Wisconsin Fast Plants for more advanced genetics experiments in eighth grade. While Wisconsin Fast Plants are more expensive, they are the standard for genetics experiments because they grow quickly and exhibit a variety of traits, allowing students to conduct multiple cross-breeding experiments in a single unit.
