My first graders are a wonderful group from a variety of backgrounds. All of the students in my class come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have very little at home support with homework and school readiness skills. Even though they are in first grade, many are already showing signs of falling behind in reading and math. In order to see these students succeed, I have dedicated some time in our busy day to provide immediate interventions to students that are showing signs of falling behind academically. By catching the skill early, I hope to help the students before this problem becomes so severe that other services need to be provided.
