Do you remember how excited you were as a kid to read a brand new book from a series you loved? The excitement and curiosity you felt when diving into a new world in your imagination? Help me unleash a love of reading, learning, and perspective taking by purchasing books for our classroom library. These books will be used in a variety of formats in an urban 6th grade classroom. My students range in Lexile reading levels from 1400s (college level!) to 400s (about 3rd grade reading level) so I need to offer a wide variety of titles, topics, and genres to help them get hooked on books. We are aiming to get students to read for 30 minutes a day, and to read on grade level. We currently don't have any classroom "sets" of books, and this makes teaching literature challenging. I want to do more than make photocopies of short stories. Through your help, we can start doing a novel unit, book studies, book clubs, and shared novels as a class. Thanks for your consideration in helping young people get hooked on books!
