On March 13, 2020, our school system, like all others shut down. Within weeks remote learning began. Since a 1 to 1 computer device program was already in place, it helped to make instruction possible. All classroom computers that were once neatly organized in charging carts, were quickly dismantled, pulled apart and cast to the side The carts were rendered useless and sent away. I quickly became the Technology Coordinator along with academic intervention.
Upon return to hybrid learning, teachers scrambled to charge computers for those students in school while teaching both in-person and remote. Extension wires were taken from home, powers strips were connected to keep instruction going. It’s a mess! Now fully in person, the mess is doubled. Our classrooms have 3 or less outlets.
This project will provide our classrooms with a charging solution so they can be ready to actively participate in class with their device fully charged.
Students will be able to charge their Chromebooks directly from their desks without the hassle of moving seats or being near a wall plug. In an age where technology is an integral part of learning, a fully charged device is essential in our classroom. The charging towers allow all students to be ready to learn without the frustration of a laptop that is running out of juice or worse dead!
