My school and classroom is the "happy place" for many of my students. 80-90% of my students live in poverty and most are second generation immigrants. Many of my students have difficult home lives. At my school and in my classroom race, culture and religion don't matter. My students are truly "color blind". Since my school is in a high crime area, it is my job as their teacher to create an environment where my students feel safe, comfortable, loved, and important.
