I have the most amazing group of students who are eager to learn and love pretend play. The goal of this project is to provide them practice with "real money" in their lessons and independent play. It is important that we teach financial literacy starting at a young age. By providing manipulatives that they can hold and manipulate in their hands, students who struggle with abstract concepts have a solid and real opportunities to engage and learn through practice. It's pretty much how we get anything added to the curriculum "When parents said children needed to be computer literate, the schools started responding - The same thing is true of basic financial literacy." Elizabeth Warren. Financial literacy is such an important concept to teach our leaders of tomorrow but it is so much more than memorizing the number line and basic addition/subtraction that is taught in math at a young age. We need to teach this concept explicitly and to create real word reflective games and activities to help make these concepts 'stick'. The Build a Business Money Kit does just that, creating many opportunities to grow up to become independent in life tasks. While using this kit we will be able to teach the language of financial literacy using the physical realistic money and combining visual supports with play. Through this we will be able to develop and understand of the value and use of money to prepare the children for a bright and financially literate future.
