Within the Extend 1 Program, I focus teaching functional and vocational skills so my students can be as independent as possible. I currently accomplish this goal by having a class coffee shop for our faculty and staff on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, cleaning a local church on Fridays, and volunteering on campus by cleaning buses, picking up litter, and etc. By expanding our class business to a print shop using the Cricut to create logo's and other designs for cups, hats, t-shirts, and car decals, we hope to raise enough income to fund groceries for cooking lessons as well as off campus learning experiences. In addition to teaching life skills, our classroom business will aid in laying a foundation of academics through hands on STEM activities. Students will have the opportunity to explore the technology of the Cricut cutting machine and accessories to create and develop designs for t-shirts and vinyl decals. They will investigate ways in which we should advertise the classroom business. They will be responsible for measuring materials, counting materials and inventory, creating invoices for customers, and accepting payments for purchases. This project will provide the Cricut Maker Bundle that contains all the necessary equipment to cut material to be be placed on products or sold separately. The easy press will allow for materials to be transferred onto cloth items, such as t-shirts.
