I am requesting Flash Furniture Mid-Back Mesh Swivel Task Chairs with Mesh Padded Seat, an electric pencil sharpener, and pencils for use in our classroom. My students remain in our classroom for the entire day (with the exception of 45 minutes) and would benefit from more comfortable chairs to sit in. My students vary greatly in height and with the adjustable height on the chairs, students would be able to focus/work better at our community learning table. They also would benefit from the movement allowed by the chairs such as swiveling or rolling to address sensory and attention deficit needs. I am also requesting an electric pencil sharpener and pencils to replace the school-supplied wall sharpener that rarely works or works poorly. My students' frustration levels are low and often give up when the sharpener does not work leading to missed learning. This project would greatly improve learning, comfort, and camaraderie in our classroom. My students can become easily distracted by and upset when things do not go as planned. For instance when they sharpen a pencil on our wall sharpener and it breaks as soon as they try to use it or when their chair is uncomfortable or does not maneuver like they want it to. Students having equipment that functions properly and is comfortable will remove much of what distracts them from learning. At times, perceived difference in fairness can cause emotional outbursts. Having all of the chairs matching and with the same functioning and perceived comfort level would eliminate this frustration.
