With a diverse population of students attending our school, it is vital for each student to have access to books where they are represented. The books that are chosen provide perspective and point of view different than the mainstream media or standard book collection. The students who are members of our book club are able to identify with these books because the characters have similar life experiences, represent their diversity or expose them to people different then they are. On Wednesdays and Fridays each week, the book club students come to the media center to read during their lunch time. It is not a requirement or mandated, the membership and participation is completely voluntary. This creates an atmosphere of fun, inclusion and exposure through literature.
