The parents of my students want to be involved in their child’s learning and always ask for ways to support learning at home. I always tell parents that the best thing they can do with their child is read with them daily. The more children are read to, the more they develop language and early literacy skills. Regardless of differences, they come to school ready to grow and learn through play. I want to start a classroom lending library where students can learn to love a story at school, and can then check books out to share with their families at home. Stories related to monthly themes or character traits can be shared to help connect home and school learning. By building up my classroom library, there will be more choices as far as what books the children can take home. This will allow the children to take home a variety of books throughout the school year that they can share with their families. My goal is to increase student and family engagement by providing opportunities to read together, while supporting classroom themes and topics.
