My students attend a very rural school in Michigan. We are the only elementary school in our district. They reside in a low socioeconomic community where many parents are jobless. Our school currently gives each teacher a budget of $300 (or less) to spend on supplies for the classroom which means that after I've spent money on paper, crayons, pencils and basic necessities there is no money left to purchase anything else!
