Our school began a new STEAM Magnet school this year and I got chosen to teacher the wonderful 24 third graders. These students are from prominently from low SES background and over 94% qualified for the free lunch program. Most of the students in Barton Hill ES are from Hispanic/Latin descent (80%), and African American descent (18%). However, for my particular classroom, we lack diversity because 92% are Hispanic/Latin descent and remaining 8% are African American. Although many of my students are in a dire financial condition, they are striving to succeed in their academic endeavors every day.
