I teach first grade with 17 enthusiastic 6-year-olds who live in a high poverty area. My students come from a large, rural elementary school near the coast of South Carolina. Our school has pre-kindergarten through fifth grade classes. Some students in my class are reading at a third grade level, while others are still struggling with beginning to read.
