I teach in an urban school that has a variety of learners from all over the world. These students mostly come from a lower income situation. One common thread through the classes is the love of reading. Currently, we are trying to build a print rich room with books about history and government for independent reading. This grant will expand the few books that I have to lend to the students who want to read but may not have the resources available. This will then allow the discussion of these books with me and other students in a small group situation in order to help develop their critical thinking skills. My plans include a reading club that will meet once a week after school.
