This is my first year teaching intensive reading. Most of my students dislike reading, and struggle with comprehension. It is often a struggle to get them to read, because my current classroom library contains many older books that the students are unable to relate to or find interest in. Struggling readers need to have material that excites them, or they will lose interest in reading completely. The students I teach have limited access to some reading material, but it is not relevant to their daily lives or current events. A lot of the books in my classroom are older and outdated. Our goal is to acquire a new, updated classroom library full of exciting books, that get my students interested in reading.
