At the beginning of the school year, students walk into a large art class filled with diverse students ranging from freshmen to seniors. By the time they leave class, they have made friends with peers they never thought they could. They learn how to be part of a community without having their parents present, become independent and self advocates, and learn how to take risks even when it means they might fail; because when they fail, they learn from their mistakes. Adolescents often get a bad rap, but my entire teaching career, all they have done is show me how amazing they can be when given the chance.
