With the addition of these items I can trade out a few of my traditional group settings, and give the students different seating that we will rotate through, so everyone gets a chance at this unique learning environment. The goal of the flexible seating, including wobble cushions and lap desks, is to help students feel as if they have a choice in how they learn, and teach them to take control of their own education not only in my classroom, but for the rest of their lives. Some of my students come from unimaginable backgrounds where education is, understandably, not a first priority (think Maslow's hierarchy of needs). My job is to foster a love of lifelong learning which will benefit them well into adulthood.
