A welcoming learning environment increases creativity, curiosity, and learning. Flexible seating also allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating and allowed to move between assignments. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work, and less disruptive to their peers around them when given a choice to sit and flexibility to move when needed. The classroom rug that I selected is a brightly colored rug that will be used in the front of the room. The rug will create a welcoming environment and a space for learning comfortably. It allows them to interact with the rug with skills they are learning. They also will have alternative places to sit while working. And most of all, move during our Brain Gym or Sensory Activities embedded in the program to increase productivity and decrease disruptive behavior.
