These materials will make a difference in my students' learning in multiple ways. The nonfiction books that are being requested are all books on or near 1st grade reading level. Putting nonfiction books in students hands improve their school life by increasing their background knowledge on specific areas. The specific books requested will assist in integrating reading with science and social studies. Some of our units in science and social studies include studying famous Americans, Inventors, Animals and their habitats, Plants, Moon and Space. The National Geographic Kids book series and the Who Was book series both give my students the chance to read and research their learning units on their own. Allowing the students to have control and ownership of their learning is crucial. When we make learning engaging and relevant for students, that's when we see students excited to learn and that is when we create lifelong learners.
