Sensory regulation is critical to my students on the Autism Spectrum in order to grow them as learners and promote their independence. Their ability to process the world around them can be challenging and downright terrifying as they try to make sense of what is happening to them at every turn; and with constant anticipation of what is coming next. Sensory problems are the underlying reason for their meltdowns due to either an under or over-reactive sensory system. The sensory equipment I am requesting will allow my students to manage their anxiety through sensory play. The items will be placed in a designated location in my classroom where my students can "escape "for a period of time while given the opportunity to decompress without any immediate demands. My students crave pressure as a way to calm and self soothe. Therefore the Weighted Lap Pad and Inflatable Pea Pod Chair will be very helpful to my students and used often. The headphones will help with canceling out noise which is also a trigger. The Fidget Toys will also provide another option when my students need to calm. All of these items will greatly enhance their school day by providing an outlet for them when they need a break.
