Students learn by experiencing new things. Our children will learn about earth's systems and earth’s place in the universe. They will learn how the apparent brightness of the sun is compared to other stars based on their distances from Earth, using hands-on models. With the book, View from Above, students will have the chance to take these abstract concepts and see them in a real life visual representation. The book features photo images taken by Terry Virts, an astronaut, who had taken these images while on a space mission! This year, 5th grade has been afforded an opportunity to see and ask questions from the astronaut himself, Mr. Terry Virts! Because we are a Title I school and our funds are limited, we do not have the ability to go on very many field trips, so we want to take full advantage of this experience. Our children will not only have the opportunity to see someone who has actually seen the world in a different perspective, but there may be a possibility of the students being able to get their books autographed by Mr. Terry Virts, an unforgettable experience.
