Our school has no budget for postage or postcard supplies. Being able to write to kids across the US and to other countries will teach students 1) how to actually write a postcard (and possibly letters, not a text or email; 2) Students will learn how to address a postcard properly; 3) Students will learn that connecting with others does not have to be electronic. Connecting with others without the use of electronics is vital for kids. Receiving postcards from other regions and countries is something many children have never experienced. Getting a postcard from Germany or even New York will demonstrate to my students just how diverse this world is. They will see it for themselves by actively writing postcards to, and receiving from students of their own age. They can develop friendships and connect with people different from themselves culturally.
