My students are all immigrants from different countries. Most of them live with a guardian. Some of the guardians are family members, while others live with strangers that opened their doors to provide a roof over these kids. One hundred percent of my students are under the poverty level. They dislike weekends and holidays because it means no food in some instances. They are great kids. They want to succeed and be able to partake of the American dream. They crossed borders or oceans with the hope of a better life, for them and their families back home. One of them, "Rosy", came to meet her mother for the first time. Only to be abused physically and psychologically. She finally had to move out with a perfect stranger who was kind to take her in. Another student, "Tom", was kidnapped by smugglers at the border and abused physically and sexually until he was able to escape.
