My school is located in an urban setting in a level 4 district. However, my school has been able to go above and beyond many of the other schools in the district by achieving level 1 status for 3 years straight in math. Students in my classroom come in with a natural curiosity to learn even when circumstances outside of school are not ideal. I have 25 students in my classroom. The majority of them are from homes that speak other languages. My students learn all state standards through content that is taught in a workshop model. Students learn to discuss ideas, problem solve and support one another in this type of learning environment.
