We are a title one school located in rural Alabama. 67% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, with the majority being free. Our students have limited availability to pre-school programs, therefore, students come to school with little to no fine motor skills. I wish to create a Multisensory Station to help my 1st graders develop those crucial fine motor skills they are lacking. The multisensory station will help by exploring manipulatives that use more than one sense. My plan is to create seven multisensory boxes for my students to rotate through daily. Each box will contain different manipulatives for students to touch, see, smell, hear and even taste! They will be able to use their little hands to sort Legos, trace words on bumpy boards, squeeze Play-Doh through small tubes, and use 'crazy' scissors to cut uneven lines. These are just a few ways I will be able to use the items requested! I cannot wait to watch and listen to my students learning in our Multisensory Station!
