Our school is approximately 1/3 Asian, 1/3 White and 1/3 African American. The Quest classes, which are the English elective style courses, cover all sorts of topics like Mythology, Harlem Renaissance, and Science Fiction. Students start the class really excited about the topic, often coming in with their own ideas and hopes for what we'll read. In order to provide materials for the past few years, I've been photocopying everything. Students need real books in their hands. It's also important for me to have stories that start with compelling problems that continue to keep students turning the page as they go.
