The students in my classroom are between the ages of 8 and 11. They fall on the more profoundly affected end of the autism spectrum and spend most of their day in a 1:1 student to teacher ratio. They have a great deal of difficulty both understanding and using language, and they require lots of repetition to acquire skills. A good deal of time is spent teaching very basic attending skills, leisure skills, and basic daily living skills. It is my goal that they obtain the skills necessary to be able to participate as fully as possible in their home and community lives.
