Many young people dream about a career as a medical professional, but the goal can seem daunting and students often lose sight of this ambition. A quality high school Anatomy & Physiology course can give students the encouragement, support, and knowledge base to build confidence and continue to strive toward this goal. With the lab equipment necessary to to do all the experiments and explorations I would like, my course would show students that, not only are they capable of learning the content, they are also capable of applying their knowledge in a clinical experience. I want equipment such as blood pressure cuffs and an otoscope set so that students can put their learning into practice and see how they would use their background content working with and evaluating patients. This will also expose students to the wide variety of medical careers available in addition to physicians and nursing. The lab supplies will increase the amount of instructional time spent doing hands-on activities and create opportunities for a wide variety of learning styles to be successful. Students who take Anatomy courses are already enthusiastic about exploring the intricacies of the human body. The lab equipment will create learning opportunities to encourage that enthusiasm, help students be academically successful, and give them the confidence to pursue post-secondary education.
