Flexible seating allows students to take ownership over their work areas and learning. During independent work time, they will be able to choose areas of the classroom that best fit their current needs. It's all about getting comfortable with reading! During small group work, we will be able to engage one another in conversations, while being able to make eye contact with one another while sitting at the new kidney table.
We want to see lots of reading muscle flexing! The current classroom is being constructed to include inviting seating and workspaces... in a former computer lab. Students will receive intensive reading instruction to help close skill gaps and become more fluent readers. They need a comfortable space to learn and to practice their skills. It is all about making the room an inviting space for the students to learn and work out those reading muscles.
I have seen the look in a student's eyes, the confidence growing, the willingness to take risks when growth is being made. That's what this is all about- being comfortable enough to learn and learning to be comfortable with that growth!
