My students are preschoolers with disabilities. Their disabilities range from mild to profound. My students attend an integrated preschool program within a Colorado school district. I am a Speech Pathologist working with these preschoolers that have Down Syndrome, Autism, and global developmental delays. I work to build their vocabulary and communication skills. Many of these children are not able to talk and use pictures and symbols to communicate their most basic needs such as wanting something to eat or drink. They are unable to talk and share ideas with their classmates during story time, circles and play. They don't have the communication skills to help them feel more included within the classroom community.
