These materials would help our school do some much needed upgrades to our gymnasium. The gymnasium also doubles as our school's lunchroom and was constructed in 1964. The lighting has not been upgraded in several decades and many of the hanging light fixtures are broken beyond repair due to being repeatedly struck during sporting activities. The lighting situation makes our gymnasium/lunchroom appear dim and dreary. The backboards and rims, which were replaced in the 1980's, are also in a state of disrepair. The original padding was glued on to the edges of the backboards and has deteriorated to the point of falling off leaving the rigid edges and corners exposed. The rims are standard, non-breakaway types that have endured many years of game play which has left them battered and out of level. The non-breakaway rims also pose a potential risk of the backboards breaking or shattering.
The new lighting and basketball rims would help our students compete with pride and address some potential safety hazards associated with the outdated fixtures and equipment.
