This classroom is about having the confidence to create, identifying oneself as an artist, solving problems and gaining skills. Students experience pride in their work, joy in creation and awareness of a world of culture they may one day discover. Each year, between 550 - 600 artists experience a variety of projects stemming from a variety of approaches (choice-based, project-based, Reggio Emilia, skill-based, etc.). Our school is in a high poverty area, deriving most (84%) of its funding from the state -- which is currently making drastic cuts due to its own budgetary woes. Our funding is on par with infamously poor areas such as East St. Louis. Without local resources to draw on, we are looking for donors to make a big impact by providing the tools for another year of art education.
